Why should you choose a Cigar Star Humidor?

We get several emails every year asking why Cigar Star humidors cost a little more than the other websites selling cigar humidor’s in Canada.
We know the answer, it’s quite simple, we only use the highest quality materials for all of our cigar humidors and accessories.
Cigar Star was founded in 2001 with a simple 3 cigar travel humidor. Since the beginning we set out to only produce the highest quality cigar accessories at our price point.
We still use the finest kiln dried Spanish cedar on the market, you will never doubt it as when you open one of our cigar humidors the warm, fresh scent of the Spanish cedar will fill the room.
Our humidor’s weight is an indicator that real hard wood was used when making our cigar humidors. Our Traditions cigar humidor weights in at 12 lbs. for an 80 count cigar humidor.

Master craftsman hand construct all of our cigar humidors. Attention to detail and intricate handcrafted inlays are sure to impress.
Almost 14 years later we’re still here, that says a great deal about just how far we have come.
With that said, you truly get what you pay for. The love for cigars is our driving passion. When you have the pleasure of aging a cigar for 5+ years and lighting it up to celebrate that special occasion, Cigar Star wants to be a part of that great moment by providing the perfect environment for your cigar.
Our relentless pursuit to perfection is why our humidors are standing up to the test of time.

Do you remove the plastic wrapper when storing in your cigar humidor?

If there is one very common question posed by those who enjoy buying and smoking cigars it is "Do you remove the plastic wrapper when storing in a humidor?" This is a question that does not have an authoritative answer. Many experts will simply reply that it is a matter of preference, but there are some benefits in placing your cigar in your cigar humidor and leaving the cigars in their wrappers while inside the well controlled environment.

Let's start by looking at cigar wrappers in general so we can understand how they can be of tremendous benefit to a true cigar aficionado. Firstly, most cigars in plastic is material known as cellophane. This has the feel of plastic, with the exception that it is actually a porous material which has the ability to breath. Cellophane can prevent the actual wrapper or leaf of the cigar from sustaining damage.  For instance, if you leave a cigar in its wrapper outside of a controlled-environment it will go stale and be completely ruined in only a matter of days. This is because the air and moisture of the environment can travel in an out of the pores of the wrapper and leave it open to moisture loss unless it is put into a cigar humidor with proper humidity, 65-73%. 62-68F

So providing that your cigars are in cellophane and not plastic my personal opinion is to leave them in the cellophane while storing them inside your cigar humidor. If you are unsure if your wrapper is indeed cellophane remove the wrapper while storing/ageing.

Choosing the proper home for your cigars

Choosing the proper home for your cigars should be done with as much care as choosing your own house, for you or your family. For this you will  be able to enjoy these wonderfully wrapped creations!
After all Don't you want your favorite and prized cigars to be safe and comfortable just like you are in your home?
Here at Cigar Star we always focus on quality, inside and out. We provide the perfect environment for your cigars to age, so when you decide to fire up your favorite cigar it will taste, burn, and smoke the way it was intended to.
Often we are asked how many cigars will a humidor hold. We base our humidor count on a 42 ring gauge cigar "Montecristo #4" we pack the humidor full of this size cigar, as this will determine the maximum cigars that humidor will store.
Depending on which cigar you smoke will determine how many cigars our humidor will be able to store. If you smoke a large ring gauge cigar this will decrease the amount of cigars it will be able to store inside the cigar humidor.

This is why we say that picking a cigar humidor is like buying a home, if you have 3 children then you more than likely don't want a 2 bedroom home. Same as a cigar humidor if you like buying your cigars by the box and they are a large ring gauge cigar you may want to look at buying a larger cigar humidor.

Cigar Star cigar humidor humidifier review.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer we are having. With the warm weather and high humidity levels in the summer months you may find that your humidor is retaining to much humidity or a higher humidity level then you desire. Which will cause your cigar to burn unevenly, or you may have to re-light it a couple of times.
We have received a couple emails regarding the use of our new Cigar Star humidor crystal humidifier system.
The most common issue with our humidifier is that your humidor is holding to much humidity..... This is a simple fix and a good problem to have with any humidor.
All you need to do is remove the humidifier from your humidor and leave the humidor open to allow some of the humidity to escape the humidor. Depending how high it is you can leave it open for about an hour.
Then close the humidor without the humidifier inside, let sit for 1 hr. or so and check the humidity level. If you have many cigars inside your humidor it may be reading your desired humidity as cigars act much like a humidifier as each cigar will hold 1.5 grams of humidity.  If you are falling short on your humidity place the humidifier back inside the humidor and check it again in an hour.
When you find that the humidor and humidifier are at the desired humidity level note the size of the crystals and only add enough water to the humidifier to allow the same size they were when your humidity was perfect.
Our Humidifier was designed to keep perfect humidity during the 6 months of winter, with that said in the winter months you may need to add a bit more water to the humidifier to maintain the desired humidity levels inside your cigar humidor.
